John Whiting set up John Whiting & Co in Camelford in 1983 after 10 years' experience both in private practice and in local government. The firm moved to Launceston in 1995 because it was felt that Launceston was the financial and commercial centre of North Cornwall.
We are a solicitors practice with two fee earners - John Whiting handles litigation, wills and probate and Graham Chester deals with the conveyancing.
We believe that the quality of service to our clients is crucial. We rely on work from our past clients and recommendations from both clients and other professionals. Our record of service and reputation is therefore vital for the success of our firm. We try to operate as a firm where the client feels that they are receiving the service they require. We do not insist on formal appointments and will always try to see any client who calls in at the office to find out how their matter is progressing.
We offer a half hour free interview to discuss clients' requirements and, during that interview, we can agree the fees for any work the client wishes us to undertake. Conveyancing is normally done for a fixed fee, agreed at the outset and, in litigation, we agree a range of fees depending on the work that needs to be done.
John Whiting is a member of the Family Law Panel of the Law Society which means he is a recognised expert in family law. He also has considerable experience of personal injury litigation as the firm was one of the lead firms in the group action taken against South West Water in the early 1990s. 200 people sued the water authority for damages for their injuries sustained as a result of the pollution of the water supply in the Camelford area.
Graham Chester has 20 years' experience as a conveyancer and there are five support staff who also have many years experience of the law between them.
The photograph at the top of this web page is of Trebarwith Strand where John Whiting was brought up and he is the only solicitor in Launceston who went to school in Launceston so we do feel that the firm offers a truly local service.
